Building an Outboard Trawler - Decks All Done!

Writer's picture: Gord and DonnaGord and Donna

It was a cool morning but the day warmed up real fast. Although it didn't get crazy hot like in recent weeks, by noon we were sweating.

We earned a take-out supper today because we installed the last four pieces of deck!

The last four pieces of deck!!!

We had three attached (glued with epoxy and attached with screws) before we took a late lunch and it was mid-afternoon before we finished the last piece.

Here's the last deck screw.

And here's the last section of deck (the foredeck) all done.

I know, I know, we shouldn't join four sheets of ply at one spot. However, you must remember that this is the second layer and we have absolutely no joints in the same place in both layers. Besides, for both layers, all seams land on beams except the centerline seam on the top layer. . . and that has a white oak plank backing pad all the way to the point of the bow. . . . so there.

The decks all done! It really is a banner day.
