Building an Outboard Trawler - It's Spring!! -
We're officially out of winter now and, if we can give it a good three-month push, we might have the little trawler in the water by the beginning of summer. . . . :)
Yesterday was forecast to be freezing cold so we didn't plan on going to the boat. Instead, we booked our 'wine bottling day' with Eric at Bodega Wines. We have a good system going. I fill the bottles, Donna puts the corks in and we both seal the caps and stick the labels on. Works like a charm. While we were there, Bryne dropped in to place an order. All is well with him.
In the afternoon the temperature got just above the freezing point. We went for our walks and then did some 'homework' boat work.
I cut another slice from one of the last pieces of that big mahogany tabletop. I am still amazed that we could acquire such a beautiful piece of wood.
I cut a piece about 1" X 1", shaped to the curve of the cabin top. The little (non-structural) beam will do two jobs. It will serve to position the top of the toilet room bulkhead and act as trim there.
Today
What a beautiful day to kick off spring! As I write this ( 5:00 PM) it's +11C. It was sunny and clear all day. The next few days are supposed to be even warmer.
We put the roof rack on the old Taurus truck, uh, I mean car, and picked up a piece of 1/2" fir plywood for the bulkhead/wall.
With the plywood on the roof, we drove the old highway at a steady 70 km/h and got to the boat just in time for coffee break :)
With the circular saw and the belt sander, we adjusted the cabin top trim piece (the one we cut yesterday) until it fit nicely and then we screwed it in place temporarily.
Then we cut out a trim piece for the side wall and attached it temporarily as well.
With the top and side trim in place we are ready to begin fitting the half bulkhead that will create the aft wall of the head.
It was a good day. . . . . .
