This is a shot of our homeward bound trip on our last outing of the year (Saturday).

And this is the shot of our completed installation (reinstallation) of the 'pass through' fitting for our solar panel.

This photo shows the w/c cabinet shelf after Donna painted it with two coats of polyurethane finish.

Here, our keel support and boat stands await haul out day.

Haul Out

The club's early haul out happened on Tuesday and Wednesday. Helen Back was 59th of 69 boats hauled by the big crane and she was lifted out of the water about 10:30am yesterday.

ree

Haul out at BYC is quite different from Ile Perrot Yacht Club. At Ile Perrot, everyone drives their own boat to the 'staging' area. Here at BYC, nobody drives their boat.

ree

All Boats are towed from their slip to the staging area. Power boats are moved with the aid of two tow boats. One forward and one aft.

ree

Several 'teams' are involved. Two teams work from the docks to prepare the boats to leave.

ree

Three teams work aboard the moving boats, handling lines and fenders and steering the sailboats.

ree

There is another team that waits at the staging area to accept the approaching boats.

ree

At the staging area, the 'boat team' disembarks and another team climbs aboard to handle the crane's lifting straps.

ree

There is a diver in the water who verifies the underwater placement of the straps. This is to prevent damage to underwater fittings, propeller shafts, etc.

ree

Her first flight!

ree

Another team handles bow and stern lines while the boats are in the air.

ree

Finally, another team waits 'on the hard' to accept the descending boat and align it with the supports or cradle.

Touching down. Photos by Donna.

Here, she's down on the keel support. Donna left to go back to her work with the kitchen team.

ree

But all was not well. I had miscalculated the height required for the keel support (by about seven inches). We had to lift the boat back into the water and shim under the keel support with blocks of wood. I felt bad about the delay caused.

I'll know for next year.

Anyway, she's out and looking right at home in the yard.

ree

Today, Donna and I returned to the boat with two big screw jacks . . . . . more on that in the next post. . . stay tuned . . . .

Now the 'winter prep' work begins.
