Building an Outboard Trawler - Update -
Updated: Jul 10, 2021
Boat Work - July 8th
Mike and I worked on the bow rail. We had cut it down on Wednesday but it didn't look quite right relative to the angle of the deck. We cut a bit off the back legs and that made it look right. Then we drilled all the holes for the base fittings.
Meanwhile, Donna and Noreen attached the two stern cleats permanently. Sikaflex and all. This was another big step. The first things permanently attached and finished.
We also created a bunch of aluminum backing plates for the cabin handrails by drilling all the holes then cutting the segments.
July 9th. Missing Dad today. Gone two years already.
Boat Work
Donna and Noreen installed (permanently) the two midship cleats.
This photo, with Donna's fingers poking through the deck fitting hole, shows how each bolt hole was over-drilled, filled with epoxy and re-drilled.
Mike and I installed some of the aluminum windows.
We did the starboard side cabin window (above), the starboard side wheelhouse window and the wheelhouse aft window. We installed them with butyl tape to seal them against the rain while allowing easy removal if necessary.
Nearing the end of the day, we all worked together to install the handrails on the wheelhouse roof. Then we cleaned up around the boat to get a profile photo for the license application and. . . . here it is. . .
Now ain't she sweet?
Thanks so much to Mike and Noreen who came and helped us. During the week, the project has moved forward by leaps and bounds.
