Boat Work:
Yesterday I used the handy-dandy drill press to pre-drill the trim piece for the cabin door. The six holes required three operations each. First I drilled through for the screw shanks. Then I drilled 3/8" counter sinks for the plugs. The screw heads didn't sink well into the 3/8" holes so I drilled smaller recesses (around 5/16") for the screw heads.
I also went down to the boat, attached the trim piece and inserted the plugs with wood glue and left everything overnight.
After a couple of cold days, the weather has warmed up again. This morning we both went down to the boat and got to work.
I trimmed the plugs down and sanded them smooth.
Donna worked hard. She first prepared a few areas for the Kiwigrip wall finish by taping them off.
Her paint work is making the boat's interior a little nicer every day.
There are no photos to show for most of the work I did today.
I worked a lot on the fuel tank connections, including drilling through a bulkhead and sealing the hole with epoxy. I also shopped for some brass fittings that we'll need to install the 'gas filter/water separator' thing.
I also installed the skillet blocks on the galley bulkhead.
They are installed with glue and one screw each, covered with plugs. If all goes well, I will be able to trim the plugs tomorrow and varnish the blocks.
Near the end of the day, Donna applied a coat of 'Cetol' to the newly-installed door trim.
It feels marvelous to be back spending time at the boat. It was a great day but it went by
in a flash.
Good News From Mom!
Mom's home in Oakville sold in one week, well above asking price and with no conditions! The realtor is a young hot-shot and the son of one of my sister's long-time friends. Mom says he worked hard and, though she regrets having to leave her home, she's happy with the sale.
Music
We enjoyed 'Open Mic' last night. Neil's off with shoulder trouble and we missed him but Dave joined us and our songs went very well. It was a quiet night so we got to play a longer set. We played:
Clocks and Spoons - John Prine
Singin' the Blues - Melvin Endsley 1956 (Marty Robbins Hit)
She Belongs to Me - Bob Dylan
You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones
Helpless - Neil Young
I played Harmonica on the third song and I think I did okay with it.
Our neighbour (Sarah) from across the street showed up with her sister. They seemed to have really enjoyed the evening and promised to return.
Thanks for reading our blog!
