Outboard Trawler News

Back at the beginning of September, as we were leaving Smith Island to begin our long cruise, one of the guys snapped a photo of us heading out. Thanks Chris!
Incredible Autumn:
Here we are, solidly into October and the weather is still great. As I write this, it's 27C and sunny!
Last weekend was also sunny, warm and calm. We spent the weekend at Smith Island (likely our last outing of the season).
About a week prior, the gang at the island decided to hold a turkey dinner on the weekend preceding Thanksgiving. We were interested and Donna offered to bring the carrots.
On Sunday, fourteen boats packed the little facility for a feast I won't soon forget.
One of the guys (Murray) cooked two little turkeys in a most unusual way, involving a home-made metal post and a garbage can.
The post is a rotisserie rod, with top and bottom tongs, installed on an adjustable stand.
On go the birds and. . .
. . . . after tying in the legs and wings, on goes the can.
Charcoal is placed on and around the can (not inside).
The coals are kept burning (and replenished as needed) for 2 1/2 hours.
The turkeys are checked with a meat thermometer. . . .
. . . and carved up for the meal.
As a sort-of pot-luck dinner, it was fabulous. About 27 people ate but there was probably enough food for 40.
How lucky we are!
