Boat Work:

It was the nicest day! Very warm on shore but on the boat, with the breeze blowing in from the river, the temperature was just perfect.

I checked on the fridge, which we left on all night, and it was running fine. The orange juice and water bottles were ice cold. However, there was a problem. The solar charge controller was telling us that the battery was drained. I pulled the fuse and today, with the sun high and strong and the fridge unplugged, the battery came right back up. So, as we originally planned, we'll be installing a switch to easily turn the fridge off for nighttime.

I spent this beautiful day working on the co-pilot's seat. The space on the port side of the wheelhouse is very limited and Donna has trouble seeing over the bow from a standing position. With my usual 'seat-of-the-pants' engineering style, I devised a seating arrangement based roughly on our island benches at home. The seat will be solid and permanent and the fridge top will open underneath. Donna will upholster the seat when it's done.

When working in tight spaces, sometimes it comes down to 'how you hold your mouth'.

Yes, I think it comes down to that.

Donna sanded all the interior mahogany.

Then she applied a coat of polyurethane.

It's really starting to look like something!

With time to spare, she started working on the forward hatch opening. It's unfinished and, when we open the hatch, the epoxy is exposed to the sun's harmful rays. She has a plan to finished the area in three steps, first, the upper edge will be painted white. Then the lower edge (the beams) will be varathaned. Finally, a bead of white Sikaflex will seal the joint between the two.

Great job Donna!

Thanks for reading our blog and say goodbye to the month of May, 2022. Maybe it's just me but it seems like time is going by way too fast.
