Running our Outboard Trawler - More Rain -
Updated: Sep 24, 2021
It's hard to believe. After such a dry summer, the forecast calls for rain the whole time we'll be in the water. There's even a rainfall warning for Ontario. C'est la vie, I guess.
Today, Weather Underground suggested that we would be ok until about 11AM so we left early for the boat and planned to be home for lunch.
It had rained heavily overnight and we had about a cup of water in the bilge. It's not from leaking, it was from the stern locker openings. They drain to the bilge.
We took her out again and clicked over the 2-hour mark on the engine. The canal was like a mirror. What a neat sky.
I throttled up to 3400 RPM in the seaway and we headed upriver for a bit. At about 9:30AM, we could see the rain approaching so we turned back.
Donna took over while I checked our fuel tank. I scared her though when I took her photo. She thought the camera flash was lightning and she jumped when it went off.
We didn't do much else before noon but Donna cleaned the bilge and I attached clamps to the the bilge pump hose (something we've been meaning to do for some time).
Other People
Other Boats
When Claude stopped by the other day, he said he was looking to buy a trawler. In the photo below, the boat on the right (a 'Sea Lord' 34) belongs to Bob and Denise. Because I knew they would be arriving soon, I told him that I would ask them if it was for sale.
Claude also mentioned that a couple of his friends, Andre and Johanne, would be arriving with a big sailboat to be hauled out. He said they had redone the whole interior and that we should see it. That's it, "That's It", in the photo above. Around here, we seldom see a sailboat this size. It's an incredible 47 feet long. When they arrived, we had just launched and we were on the dock. Donna recognized the name on the boat and got to talking with Johanne. Long story short - we got to meet the people and see the boat. I only regret that I didn't have the camera with me. They bought the boat from the widow of a man who had torn the whole inside apart to renovate it. They worked on the interior full time for two and a half years. Needless to say this particular 'Catalina 47' is absolutely incredible.
